The National Championship comprises of 7 events with 6 events held in South Africa, 1 event held in Botswana and is run in line with the FIA’s (international sporting authority) guidelines. Besides the Botswana 1 000km Desert race which takes place over 3 days, all other events are held over 2 days.
Each event comprises of a qualifying race on day 1 which is used to determine the starting positions for the main race on day 2.The main race on day 2 generally takes around 6 hours for the leading competitors to complete. There are 2 racing categories within Cross Country Motor Racing, namely the Production vehicles and the Special Vehicles (tubular frame vehicles) which run under two separate Championships. It is arguably the strongest domestic cross country championship in the world and a strong proving and feeder area for international motorsport, most importantly the Dakar Rally.
The championship attracts the following major brands: Renault, Nissan, Ford, Toyota, Elf, Motul, Total, Castrol, Atlas Copco, Century Property Developments, Pirelli, BF Goodrich, Cooper Tires and Bosch, to name a few.
